Despite record-breaking temperatures, ACC commemorated Juneteeth with its annual community celebration and by, once again, participating in the Central Texas Juneteenth Parade, where the college debuted its new parade float. View photos from the events below.
ACC Juneteenth Celebration
Hosted by our African American Cultural Center, the college’s annual Juneteenth Celebration was held Friday, June 16, at Eastview Campus. Hundreds of students, faculty, and staff as well as community members attended the event throughout the day.
The celebration included activities provided by ACC groups and external organizations and vendors. Attendees were treated to a performance of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” followed by other performers and dance groups. ACC’s mascot, R.B. the Riverbat, also made an appearance.
Central Texas Juneteenth Parade
On Saturday, June 17, ACC participated in the Central Texas Juneteenth Parade in East Austin. The annual event attracts thousands of people from around the area to celebrate Juneteenth.
ACC’s float made its grand entrance onto Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. with a bevy of Riverbats who distributed 350 pounds of candy to onlookers along the parade route. The Riverbat float was also ridden by two of the local area Juneteenth Miss and Jr. Miss Queens who tossed bead necklaces into the crowds.
The college closed in observance of Juneteenth on Monday, June 19.
