To enhance accessibility, modernize facilities, and prepare for new programs, Campus Planning, Construction & Sustainability is working on several important capital improvement projects across the district this fall.
These projects focus on upgrading key entry points to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility standards, improving site operations, and improving classrooms to expand programs. Here’s an overview of what’s happening:
Focus on Accessibility
ADA Doorway Replacements
Two key doorway replacements for ADA accessibility are taking place at Highland Campus:
- The Building 3000 main exterior door (facing Clayton Lane)
- The connecting doorway between Buildings 2000 and 3000 on the second floor
Surface Parking Lot A Resurfacing
A portion of the surface parking lot located between Building 3000 and the Parking Garage was taken offline starting November 24 to be graded, resurfaced, and repainted. This work will add seven new accessible spaces to the parking lot that are in close proximity to the Highland Campus, Building 3000 entry. Access to Building 3000, the Parking Garage, and the connecting sidewalk will not be affected. Ample parking remains available in the garage during the closure period. The work for this project will be completed by December 19.
Building and Operations Improvements
Elevator Modernization
The Highland Business Center (Highland Campus, Building 8000) elevator modernization project has been completed. Additional elevator modernization projects will soon be underway at the Eastview, Northridge, and Riverside campuses.
Dumpster Corral Installation
The existing dumpster corral in the surface parking lot on the west side of Building 3000 is being removed and replaced to better host trash and recycling dumpsters. The work for this project will be completed by December 19.
Strategic Classroom Improvements
Several other important initiatives are underway and planned for completion before the start of the spring semester:
- ACC Lockhart Center (LKT): Work is underway to get the former Ford Building in Downtown Lockhart ready and operational to host classes starting in the spring semester. Specialized workforce training programs will launch at the new center in January.
- Riverside (RVS) Classroom Refresh Pilot: Over the winter intersession, a pilot project will refresh six existing Riverside classrooms with new furniture and finishes. If successful, this model will be significantly scaled up for a much larger project at RVS over the summer.
- Advanced Manufacturing Classrooms: The College is preparing 12 classrooms across the Riverside and Round Rock campuses and Highland Business Center (HLC 8000) to host new Advanced Manufacturing cohorts starting in the spring semester. Some of these classrooms will be ready at the start of the term, while others are projected to be completed in early March.
- Eastview Building 9000 Pharmacy Tech Classroom Renovation: The renovation includes installing student workstations with computers, a faculty station, ADA-compliant features, and other program/infrastructure improvements to support the classroom. The classroom will be online for the start of the spring semester.
