Barry Silverberg, ACC Nonprofit Austin (NPA) Executive Director, was honored by the Cherokee Township of San Antonio for his assistance in incorporating and obtaining their IRS 501(c)(3) determination. Frank Leach, Township Treasurer, presented him with a handwoven basket and a plaque that reads in part: “Certificate of Authenticity Citizen of the Cherokee Nation.” Over the years, Silverberg and NPA have provided consultation to more than 600 area nonprofits, helping with incorporation and obtaining nonprofit determinations, organization development and capacity building, strategic thinking and planning, and general counseling on effectively achieving their missions. Associate Adjunct Professor of Biology Dr. Rodney Rohde published an article, “Measles: An Old Foe Has Returned,” on Contagion Live on March 10. The comprehensive piece provides an update on the cases, as well as an overview of testing, presentation, and vaccination. Read it HERE.

Dean of Advanced Manufacturing Dr. Laura Marmolejo was recognized with the prestigious Ally in Workforce Award at the 2025 Austin Regional Manufacturers Association (ARMA) ARMIES Awards. The Ally in Workforce Award honors individuals who have made a significant impact in strengthening the manufacturing workforce in Central Texas. Read more HERE.

Two Riverbats were selected for Austin Woman Magazine’s 2025 Change Maker List. Provost Dr. Monique Umphrey was recognized as a ‘Talent Transformer’ — a distinction that goes to educators dedicated to giving others the tools needed to better themselves. Nina Means, Fashion Incubator director, was recognized as a ‘Trend Disrupter,’ which honors those in fashion, beauty, and design who help others make a bold statement. 

ACC’s Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives, Dr. Garrett Groves, was appointed as one of the inaugural members of the new National Semiconductor Technology Center Workforce Advisory Board. The Center is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce and was established by the CHIPS and Science Act. Read more HERE.
