
Austin Community College Police Department (ACCPD) welcomes Melby Huerta as the College’s first Victim Services Manager. Huerta stepped into her new role on September 16, 2026.
Huerta brings more than 25 years of experience in victim services, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care. Her background includes serving as a Victim Services Crisis Counselor, Lead Counselor, and Supervisor with the Austin Police Department.
“I am excited to be working with Melby in her new role as the Victim Services Manager,” says ACC Chief of Police Gizette Disher. “Her many years of experience bring compassion, understanding, and a wealth of knowledge to this important position. This is a significant step forward for ACCPD and the college. Melby’s work will make a meaningful difference not only in the lives of our students, but also in strengthening trust and connection within our ACC community.”
Huerta earned her bachelor’s degree in Social Work from St. Edward’s University and holds a master’s degree in Social Work from Tulane University.
“I am honored to serve as the Victim Services Manager for Austin Community College,” says Huerta. “I am excited to bring my experience to ACC and help build a strong, compassionate, and accessible Victim Services Program that supports our students and employees.”
On a personal note, Huerta is a proud mother of two college students, both attending St. Edward’s University. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.
