Frequently brought up during town halls and campus conversations, employees and students have expressed their desire for more food options on campus. To that end, starting this fall, the College is testing out food trucks to increase food options on campus.
The College is actively partnering with local food truck vendors to bring affordable options to all 11 campuses. The trucks will be on a rotating schedule that will go to each campus at least once a week as part of a pilot program this fall.
“This week we have had a good turnout at our Highland, South Austin, Hays, and Riverside campus locations. This is a short-term solution to create more options for students, faculty, staff, and visitors who can’t or prefer not to leave campus to get food. In the long term, the College is working on creating a plan to address access to food on all of our campuses,” said Carlos Martinez, ACC Deputy CFO.
Employees will receive an email from their campus manager’s office with the schedule for their campus soon.
Grab & Go Expansions
The College is expanding the Grab & Go at the South Austin Campus, with the refreshed space expected to open in October 2026. This upgrade will provide ACC students, faculty, and staff with a modern, convenient food option that complements the rotating food truck program.
The Grab & Go at ACC Highland Campus expanded its hours this semester to include Mondays. The student-run take-out restaurant is now open for breakfast and lunch Mondays–Thursdays from 8:30 a.m.–2 p.m.
Ongoing Dining Services
ACC’s student-run scratch kitchen, Eatery 73, continues to operate regularly for lunch service Wednesdays & Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Online ordering is available.
The Eastview, Rio Grande, and Riverside cafes, staffed by ACC Campus Operations, continue to operate on their same schedules as well.
Looking Ahead
The College will be conducting a request for proposal process to regional and national food‑service providers to identify new service models for all 11 campuses — including micro‑markets, kiosks, and hybrid café concepts — to further expand flexible, cost‑effective food access across ACC.
I overheard a group of students talking about how expensive the food truck was.
This is a great chance for leadership to talk to campus communities about local vendor recommendations. As mentioned earlier, the truck brought to Riverside was unaffordable for the majority of our students, and even faculty and staff. The idea behind it is sound, especially for campuses like Riverside that have limited options within walking distance; but input from folks who work and study at the campuses would make this more effective for everyone involved.
Send trucks to NRG, please. For students it’s a food desert. Unless you consider vending machine chips/candy “food.”
Is there a schedule somewhere where we can see which food truck will be at our campus and on what day(s)?
