Austin Community College (ACC) celebrated Juneteenth at the Eastview Campus on Thursday, June 18, honoring the legacy of the Emancipation Proclamation. The College welcomed community members, local organizations, and campus partners to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in 1865 while reflecting on the continued pursuit of freedom and opportunity.
The celebration featured discussions on freedom, faith, community and economic empowerment, cultural identity, and personal health and well-being. These conversations encouraged participants to reflect on our shared history while strengthening community connections and fostering a sense of belonging.
“The annual Juneteenth celebration reflects the College’s ongoing dedication to removing barriers, promoting equity, and building a Culture of Love where every member of the community feels valued, supported, and empowered to thrive,” says Darrell Merriweather, senior advising specialist for Academic Guidance. “Through events like this, ACC continues to demonstrate its commitment to serving both its internal and external communities by creating opportunities to connect, collaborate, and care for one another.”
