Destructive flooding swept through Central Texas over the Independence Day weekend, bringing with it unimaginable devastation and heartbreaking loss. Austin Community College District (ACC) is focused on the safety and well-being of our students and employees while supporting the community impacted by this catastrophe.

Fortunately, ACC campuses and facilities were spared by the flooding, which allows us to focus our attention on helping our affected students, employees, and neighbors. Our South Austin Campus hosted a donation drive over the 4th of July weekend, and the College is working with our partners and rescue groups across the area to learn more about how ACC can further support the official relief efforts.

The College created a Flood Relief Support web page with resources to support students and employees and a list of ways to get involved with the flood relief efforts.

Employee Support

Employees are encouraged to talk with their supervisors if they need time to recover or assist loved ones impacted by the storm. The Employee Assistance Program is also a resource for confidential counseling support and resources available to help you and your family.

The College’s Classified Employee Association started a fundraiser to help boost ACC’s Employee Emergency Fund. This mutual aid fund supports employees who need a little extra help during a hard time. View the fundraiser here.

Student Support

If you know a student struggling in the aftermath of the storm, let them know that ACC counselors are available to provide support and guidance. Faculty are encouraged to be flexible and work with struggling students to help them stay on track academically.

Ways You Can Help

There are things you can do to help with relief efforts. You can give money, donate supplies, serve meals, or help with pet care.

You can find some trusted organizations that support victims and their families on our Flood Relief Support page. We’ll continue to update the page to share more ways you can get involved.
