The Austin Community College District (ACC) Board of Trustees met for its regular meeting on Monday, October 14. The board witnessed the swearing-in of this year’s Student Government Association officers (pictured above with the Chancellor and trustees) and the presentation of the 2025 Leadership Academy cohort.

Other meeting highlights include a report from the ACC District Police Department on training, details about a new free concert the College was selected to host, and the approvals of a series of contracts.

ACCDPD Officers’ Commendations, Innovative Training, Awards, and Promotions Report

The ACC District Police Department (ACCPD) presented a report to the board on innovative training, awards, promotions, and employee changes over the past year. Since February 2024, the department participated in 22 training sessions, and employees ranged from 88 to 92 officers.

Training highlights include:

  • Trauma-Informed Approach to Sexual Assault Investigations
  • Active Shooter Response for proper techniques and procedures
  • Proper techniques when conducting traffic stops
  • Report writing procedures when completing incident and offense reports.
  • Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) First Responder Medical training
  • Overview of the newly purchased and deployed ACCDPD body-worn cameras

Over the past year, 18 officers have received awards and commendations, including the ACCPD Life Saving Award granted to Officer Vivian Benavides at the board meeting. The award recognized Officer Benavides’ actions in July 2024 when they discovered a person in distress at the Round Rock Campus and provided life-saving support.

ACC Votes and FREE Concert

The Board approved a general release for the College to host a free concert featuring Jessie Murph. It is part of the nonpartisan National Community College Concert Competition created by Levi’s® and SHOWTIME/MTV Entertainment Studios (MTV) in partnership with the Students Learn Students Vote (SLSV) Coalition, the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN), and Good Trouble Collaborative. Approving Voting Locations for the November General Election

Trustees approved voting locations for Austin Community College District. The College has multiple items on the November ballot, including three Board of Trustees seats and a special annexation election in the Lockhart ISD territory.

Board Approves Series of Contracts

The board voted to allow College administration to move forward on several contracts for programs and campus improvements:

  • A contract for Communication Access Real-Time Translation (CART) – After receiving and reviewing eight proposals, the College selected Texas Closed Captioning, LLC as the top recommendation. CART will provide services for the deaf and hard of hearing.
  • A contract for districtwide roof repair and preventative maintenance services – The contract with Texas Roofing Company also allows for modifying existing roofing systems. 
  • A contract for rooftop solar arrays at the Highland Campus south parking garage – The contract was awarded to Lighthouse Solars. 
  • An interlocal agreement between ACC’s Continuing Education Department and Austin Energy – The agreement allows the College to provide customized training to Austin Energy employees.
