Austin Community College District’s (ACC) Veteran Affairs Department received the Veteran Education Excellence Recognition Gold Award by the Texas Veterans Commission. The award recognizes the college’s continued commitment to the academic success of student veterans and military-connected students.

“This is a huge accomplishment for our Veteran Affairs department. This award exemplifies ACC’s commitment to our veteran Students,” says Jason Briseno, executive dean of Financial Assistance and Veterans Affairs. “It also amplifies all the hard work the Veteran Affairs staff have accomplished over the years. I am so grateful for the team we have and the dedication they bring day in and day out.”

The Veterans Education Excellence Recognition Award (VEERA) award recognizes universities and community colleges that provide excellence in education and related services to veteran students and promotes best practices. The awards are given on a Gold, Silver, and Bronze level.

ACC Veterans Resource Center (VRC) at Highland Campus serves as a central hub for veterans. Established in fall 2018, it provides valuable resources for veterans. The VRC offers financial aid, community, and academic and emotional support to ACC’s student veterans and their families. Additionally, the VRC organizes educational programs and outreach efforts to improve the success and well-being of veteran students and their families.
