The ACC Board of Trustees met for its regular August meeting on Monday, August 21. Trustees approved the contract for the new ACC chancellor, a new certification program, and the 2023-24 property tax rate.

2023-24 Property Tax Rate
ACC Trustees have proposed a new tax rate for the college for 2023-24. The tax rate of $0.0986 (09.86 cents) per $100 valuation consists of $0.0854 for Maintenance and Operation and $0.0132 for Debt Service. A public hearing on the proposed tax rate will be held during the board’s September 18 meeting. Learn more HERE.
Summer Financial Report
Neil Vickers, Executive Vice Chancellor of Finance & Administration, informed Trustees that the college closed the 2022-23 financial year with positive enrollment growth overall for the first time in several years. Watch his report to the board HERE.
Chancellor Employment Agreement
After naming Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart the sole finalist for the next Chancellor of ACC on July 24, the Board moved forward with the next step in the transition process. Trustees approved the employment agreement with Dr. Lowery-Hart, who is expected to begin his service as the ninth ACC Chancellor effective Sunday, October 1. Learn more HERE.
New Principal Certification Program
Trustees unanimously approved a new Principal Certification Program through the Continuing Education Division to help prepare K-12 educators to become principals and assistant principals. The cost-competitive alternative certification will offer face-to-face classes that accommodate working professionals. Learn more HERE.
Phi Theta Kappa Report
Professor Mary Kohls, ACC’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) faculty advisor, provided Trustees with an annual report. PTK is the officially recognized International Honor Society for students attending open-access institutions and seeking associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, or other college credentials. During the 2022-2023 academic year, ACC’s Alpha Gamma Pi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa inducted 527 new members, and 112+ returning members remained active through volunteering and/or serving as an officer. Chapter members recorded 2,500 hours of volunteer service. In addition, PTK students’ success rate is 91%, with this percentage including students who graduate and/or transfer with 30 credit hours or more. The chapter has received regional and international recognition. Goals for next year include increasing membership 10% and recruiting additional Hispanic students to align with the college’s percentage of Hispanic students enrolled.
