With construction on the Make It Center (MIC) at ACC Highland Campus substantially complete and furniture, fixtures, and equipment being installed in the space, the MIC team is aiming for a soft launch in March 2023 and a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony later in the spring. The following update has been provided by Dr. Janelle Green, ACC Make It Center Director:
Contractors are 85 percent done with the punch list of unfinished work and ongoing issues.
Some audio/visual (AV) equipment has been received and installation has started. A business ticker has been installed in the Showroom. Contractors will continue to install AV equipment as it arrives over the next few months. Due to a delay in products to integrate and synchronize AV equipment throughout the space, systems aren’t expected to be fully integrated until summer 2023.
Electrical work at the front desk has been completed. Outlets are now being added to the raised floor of the Showroom. Next, power reels for electrical supply for the FabLab should arrive and be installed. Wireless access points also will be installed at the end of January/early February.
The MIC team has begun moving furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) into the space. Furniture and equipment that was being stored during construction was moved into the Center January 4-6. Office furniture is expected to arrive at the end of January. Several large pieces of equipment are still moving through ACC’s Scope of Work and purchasing process.
The MIC team will work with the ACC Showcase inaugural departments to set up their displays by early February. These departments include: Culinary, Hospitality, and Tourism; Computer Science and Cybersecurity; CE Fast Track Programs; Arts, Digital Media, and Communications; and a display about drones and drone technology.
MIC spaces have already been built into AdAstra, and the MIC team is working with the college’s IT Department to identify and finalize a guest check-in/management platform.
The Center hosted a sneak peek tour of the space in December for about 40 guests as part of an E3 Alliance event. Several additional events are planned for February and March, including a college recruitment event, a Boy Scouts of America Explorers Club fundraiser, ACC’s annual Adulting 101 program, and a STEM explorers program session. Programs in the queue include Verizon Summer Camp, Upward Bound Summer Camp, Girl Scouts Camp, and 3DS Summer Program.
