Austin Community College District (ACC) has named Lam “Lynn” Lau the inaugural director for the college’s Asian American and Pacific Islander Cultural Center.

Lau developed ACC’s Chinese program in 2006 and has been teaching Chinese as an adjunct assistant professor in the Foreign Language Department since then. She speaks three Chinese languages, including Mandarin, Cantonese, and Teochew (a Southern Min language).

For more than two decades, Lau also has worked as a Chinese language and cultural consultant. Her recent consulting projects include a Netflix animation series.

Born in China and raised in Hong Kong, Lynn earned her M.A. in Chinese from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and B.A. in Translation and Interpretation from the City University of Hong Kong.

Lau started her new role in June 2022.

About the AAPI Cultural Center

Asian American & Pacific Islander Cultural Center was established in summer 2022 to support AAPI students in their academic journey at ACC and create opportunities for the community throughout the district to learn about the AAPI heritage and cultures.

The center has a temporary space at ACC Northridge Campus while its permanent home is being constructed.
