2021 Winter Storm Uri hit our community hard, causing damage across Central Texas, leaving many without power and water, and the aftermath resulted in broken pipes and water leaks.

While Austin Community College District (ACC) fared well overall, portions of its campuses still suffered some damage. All campuses and centers have since reopened on a regular schedule, except Cypress Creek (Building 1000), which will reopen after spring break. Both Cypress and Eastview will have ongoing work for the near future.

“Our teams did amazing work to prepare for this storm before it got here. They went to every campus and center to winterize our facilities, and then they stayed there to monitor the situation,” says Dr. Molly Beth Malcolm, ACC executive vice president of Campus Operations and Public Affairs. “Because of their commitment, we were able to locate pipe issues and leaks quickly and take action to minimize the damage. I’m incredibly proud of this group. Most damages to our campuses were minor thanks to their proactive measures.”

The worst of the damages were reported inside Highland Campus, Building 3000, which is under construction. The building sustained flooding and water damage. Crews are currently assessing the damage and developing plans to make necessary repairs.
