Austin Community College District (ACC) launches a new scheduling application for requesting sign language interpreting and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) services. The new system, called Usked, takes effect starting in the spring 2027 semester.
If you’re planning early for spring 2027 events, you can submit your request using the new system beginning Monday, November 9. The Sign Language Interpreting and Captioning (SLIC) Interpreter Request form will be replaced at the end of the fall 2026 semester.
Who Should Use the New System?
The new platform will be used by ACC employees, students registered with Student Accessibility Services (SAS), and departments arranging communication access services for College-sponsored events and programs.
What’s Changing?
Usked changes how interpreting and CART requests are submitted and managed. The process for determining communication access needs and approved accommodations is not changing.
While the new system will look different, requesters will continue to provide the same information, including:
- Date and time the services are needed
- Location or virtual meeting information
- Type of service requested
- Meeting, event, or program information
- Number of participants, when known
- Contact information
- Additional details needed to coordinate services
Employees should continue to submit requests as far in advance as possible to ensure services can be scheduled.
For department-sponsored events and programs, departments should submit requests at least 10 business days in advance. Requests submitted with less notice will be accommodated when possible, but services cannot be guaranteed.
What Departments and Event Organizers Need to Know
Departments hosting College events and programs are responsible for ensuring communication access is available when requested by a participant or member of the public. Beginning November 9, the designated event contact should use Usked to request sign language interpreting or CART services for the spring 2027 semester. Requests for the remainder of the fall semester will continue to be submitted through the SLIC Interpreter Request form.
Departments are also encouraged to include accessibility language in event promotions, registration materials, and other communications, so attendees know how to request accommodations in advance.
What You Need to Do
Beginning November 9, use Usked to submit proactive scheduling requests for spring 2027 interpreting or CART services.
Coming Spring 2027
For spring 2027, ACC departments will assume responsibility for budgeting for interpreting and CART services associated with department-sponsored events and programs. Additional guidance about this change, including request procedures, will be shared before spring implementation.
In addition, ACC is preparing to launch a new On-Demand Language and Interpretation program through Languagers in spring 2027. This service will expand access to on-demand video and audio interpreting for American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken languages.
