Austin Community College District (ACC) Chancellor Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart will host a Campus Conversation on Tuesday, October 6, to share information about the College’s safety measures and protocols following an incident involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers near our Highland Campus.
Due to the proximity to our campus, students and employees have shared concerns and requested more information about the College’s protocols.
Special Campus Conversation: Safety Measures & Protocols
Date: Tuesday, October 6, 2026
Time: 3 p.m.
In Person: ACC Highland, Building 2000 Presentation Hall
Virtually: https://vimeo.com/event/6249677
At approximately 11:15 a.m. on Monday, October 5, the College received reports from a witness at our Highland Campus who observed an individual being detained in a student parking lot. The College has since confirmed that the group seen detaining the individual were ICE officers conducting a traffic stop.
“I know this Campus Conversation comes on short notice, but I feel strongly that we need to get together and talk,” says Lowery-Hart. “I’m comforted knowing no one from our ACC community was directly involved in the incident near our campus, but the situation is still unsettling, and many of you have shared concerns with me. I want to be here for you today rather than waiting another week for us to connect.”
The Campus Conversation is open to students and employees. For those who are unable to join in person or on the livestream, the College will share a recap.
