Austin Community College District (ACC) has updated its telework policy to better support students and ensure the College is in compliance with the provisions of Texas Education Code Section 51.992.

Developed through shared governance with the College’s Administrative Services Council, the new policy framework ensures consistency across all campuses.

“At ACC, our purpose has always been simple: put students first. Whether we’re helping a student navigate registration, guiding them in the classroom, or keeping our campus operations running smoothly behind the scenes, our work relies on being accessible—for our students and for each other,” says Aaron Henry, ACC Chief of Staff to the Chancellor. “Being available when and where students need us ensures they thrive, and being present on campus allows us to support our colleagues so we can all do our best work.”

To ensure no office closes or reduces service during normal operating hours, department managers will oversee all schedules. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Student & Team First: Every department will maintain continuous, in-person coverage during regular business hours—generally, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Regular operating hours may vary for other departments or divisions.
  • Flexibility Where Possible: For roles where remote work is possible, positions may be eligible for telework options—generally up to two telework days per week. Because telework depends entirely on job duties and campus coverage, it isn’t automatic, but offers balance where operational needs allow.
  • Residency & Tech Basics: To comply with state guidelines, all employees who telework must maintain Texas residency and use ACC-issued equipment.

Supervisors are receiving direct training and will evaluate operational needs and develop team schedules that ensure continuous in-person coverage over the next few weeks. Finalized schedules will be shared across each respective department before the new guidelines go into effect beginning the week of Labor Day.
