This spring, 80 ACC students stepped up to share original research and academic work at the Austin Community College District’s (ACC) inaugural Student Research Symposium, and they delivered.

With 75 submissions spanning a remarkable range of disciplines—from chemistry and psychology to English, philosophy, sociology, astronomy, economics, history, and mathematics—the event put a spotlight on the caliber of intellectual, academic, and creative work happening across ACC’s classrooms.

Students presented through posters, multimedia presentations, and oral presentations, bringing months of inquiry and effort to an audience of peers, family, faculty, and College leadership. The presence of senior leadership, including Chancellor Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart, made it clear: ACC believes in its students and the work they’re doing.

The day came together thanks to a cross-college effort with support from:

  • Geographical Information Systems
  • Office of Experiential Learning
  • International Programs Office
  • Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Programs, Dr. Beth Knight
  • Orientation & First-Year Experience Team
  • Honors Program Ambassadors
  • Teaching & Learning Excellence Division
  • Radio-Television-Film Department
  • Faculty
  • Student Volunteers

The symposium marks a proud milestone in the LEAD (Liberal Education Advancement and Development) Program’s inaugural year and an important first step in building a home for undergraduate research at ACC. It returns next year as “ACC in Bloom,” with broader participation across disciplines and programs.
