Austin Community College District (ACC) has been recognized by the U.S. Department of State as a Top Producer of Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program recipients for 2001–2025. Over the program’s history, 21 ACC students have been awarded the competitive Gilman Scholarship.

Administered by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Gilman Program provides merit-based scholarships to students with financial need to study or intern abroad. The program supports Pell Grant recipients and aims to expand access to global learning opportunities that build critical career skills and strengthen U.S. economic competitiveness.

Since its launch in 2001, the program has supported more than 50,000 students from across the United States studying in 170+ countries worldwide. The designation places ACC among the top 25 institutions nationally in its category for supporting students who earn the scholarship.

Four ACC students were among the most recent recipients in 2025:

  • Maricarmen Gonzalez Hernandez — Romania
  • Lucas Baker — Austria
  • Jordan Assalaam — Germany
  • Natalie Jimenez — Costa Rica

The College offers about 10 diverse study abroad offerings each year. It is an opportunity for students to immerse themselves in cultural enrichment and academic exploration.
