The Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Cultural Center at Austin Community College District (ACC) hosted a Lunar New Year Get-Together on February 20, 2026. Students, faculty, staff, and community members celebrated the incoming Year of the Horse with a night full of culture, laughter, and community at ACC Highland Campus.

“Beyond celebrating the richness of AAPI heritage, this event played a vital role in fostering a stronger, more inclusive ACC community. May we all be like galloping steeds in the coming year, charging forward with courage,” says the AAPI Cultural Center’s Director, Lynn Lau.

This event featured a special guitar-and-vocal performance of a Mandarin Chinese song by Amora O., an ACC student majoring in Chinese. Guests also enjoyed plenty of friendly competition and conversations.

Mixing traditional Chinese yo-yo with modern music, the diabolo routine by the Texas Diabolo Association from the University of Texas at Austin brought tons of energy and showcased a creative blend of tradition and contemporary flair.

Adding to the festive spirit, ACC’s mascot, R.B. the Riverbat, passed out red envelopes symbolizing good luck, prosperity, and happiness for the year ahead.
