Austin Community College District (ACC) is currently finalizing preparations to comply with Texas Senate Bill 8 (SB 8), which takes effect on Thursday, December 4, 2025.

As a public higher education institution, ACC is required by law to designate multiple-occupancy restrooms, locker rooms, and changing facilities for use by individuals of only one sex, and noncompliance may result in civil penalties.

“ACC will take every reasonable step to comply with the law while remaining steadfast in its commitment to maintaining a welcoming environment where every member of our community is treated with dignity and respect,” says Aaron Henry, Chief of Staff.

A Collaborative Approach

To help guide this work, the Chancellor’s Office convened a representative workgroup including members from the Faculty Senate, all employee associations, Cabinet leadership, Human Resources, Facilities, Finance and Administration, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Compliance, Government Affairs, and Belonging & Purpose.

This group has helped shape a draft Administrative Rule and supporting Guidelines that provide clarity, consistency, and care in our implementation.
