Austin Community College District (ACC) hosted the world premiere of ACCTV’s “Day in the Life: Parenting Students” on October 16, 2025. Approximately 150 faculty, staff, partners, and community members attended the event at the Austin PBS Studios on ACC Highland Campus to watch the latest episode of the award-winning docuseries.
Produced by ACCTV in collaboration with Austin PBS and ACC Basic Needs Systems, the 30-minute episode highlights the real challenges and triumphs of parenting students and how ACC resources like child care assistance, flexible classes, and financial aid help them keep moving forward.
The screening was followed by a panel discussion with the three students who shared their stories of raising children while attending ACC:
- Karol Iruegas – a mother of two and first-generation student studying Cybersecurity and supported through Capital IDEA
- De’Ja Reed – a General Studies major and mother of a toddler who receives child care support while working multiple jobs
- Antonio Stoimenovski – a Computer Science & Information Technology student and father, supported through work-study internship
They were joined on stage by Alyssia Palacios-Woods, from community partner Capital IDEA, and Amber Huffman, ACC student advocate, who shared what it’s like to see the impact of their work and what they’d like to see next for ACC and its partners in terms of supporting parenting students.
Cara Crowley, ACC vice chancellor of Basic Needs, closed out the evening by sharing ways the community can play a role in supporting parenting students.
Watch for more special screening events for this special episode at other ACC campuses soon. A schedule of events will be posted on the ACCTV website.
