Austin Community College District’s (ACC) InfoSec team — a division of the IT Department — hosts AI Fools Week March 31 through April 4.

This one-week awareness campaign was created by the National Cybersecurity Alliance to help educate the public about AI security and privacy.

“AI is changing how we work, communicate, and navigate the digital world,” says Emilie Kunze, Cybersecurity Governance, Risk, and Compliance Manager. “As artificial intelligence becomes more powerful, scammers use it to craft convincing deepfakes, impersonate trusted contacts, and trick people into sharing sensitive information. Meanwhile, millions of people are unknowingly feeding AI tools private or work-related data without understanding where it goes. This week gives us an opportunity to share helpful tips, tools, and resources to stay safe with AI.”

Throughout the week, the InfoSec team will shine a light on AI’s role in education, work, and everyday life—while uncovering common AI misconceptions and challenges. Follow along on social media for tips, tools, and resources.

Tips to Stay Safe:

  • Avoid sharing sensitive or confidential information with AI — if you wouldn’t post it on social media, don’t share it with AI.
  • Question what you see and stay skeptical — if an image, video, or phone call seems too shocking or too good to be true, cross-check with reliable sources.
  • Secure your accounts with passwords & multi-factor authentication when possible.
  • Treat AI as a helpful tool rather than a replacement for your skills.

Whether you’re curious about AI or already using it in your studies or work, this is your chance to learn, engage, and ask questions.
