The Austin Community College District (ACC) Board of Trustees held its first work session and regular meeting of the new year on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Highland Campus. Below are highlights from the meetings.

Spring Enrollment Update

Spring classes start January 21. As of January 10, preliminary numbers show overall enrollment up 15% from last year. The Board of Trustees received a preview of spring 2025 enrollment numbers, including among Free Tuition and Affordability Scholarship students. Learn more here.

Legislative Priorities

Following a presentation by ACC Community & Government Affairs Vice Chancellor Dr. Chris Cervini, Trustees affirmed and adopted the 2025 Texas Association of Community Colleges(TACC)/Community College Association of Texas Trustees (CCATT) Policy Priorities for the 89th Texas Legislature as the ACC’s state legislative priorities. Transform_Ed Update

During the work session, ACC Provost Dr. Monique Umphrey provided the board with an update on Transform_Ed, one of the initiatives that will help the College put its Theory of Change into practice across ACC’s diverse academic and student affairs areas. The presentation went over why Transform_Ed, took a look at where the initiative is now, and how it will ensure ACC remains an innovator in higher education. Learn more here.

Labor Market Information Report

ACC Vice Chancellor Dr. Jenna Cullinane Hege took Trustees on a deep dive into completion data and wages associated with several ACC programs. The presentation included data for three key Central Texas workforce areas—healthcare, mobility and infrastructure, and IT—related to demand, supply, wages, House Bill 8, and more. Learn more here.

Contract Approval

Trustees unanimously approved allowing the City of Austin to install two traffic cameras on the roof of the Pinnacle building for real-time decision-making. The video will be streamed to a video wall at Austin’s Mobility Management Center, where City of Austin Transportation Department personnel can monitor traffic conditions and take the appropriate action to alleviate congestion. The video will not be recorded or allowed to be used for any other purpose.
