Dozens of students and their families attended ACC’s inaugural Faculty and Family Connections event. The event gave parents and families the opportunity to connect with faculty, gain a deeper understanding of the academic journey, and discover ways to support their student’s success.

Approximately 15 ACC divisions, including Library Services, the Math Department, and the Neurobats student group, tabled at the event, sharing resources and valuable information on future student careers.

Highlights of the event include:

  • A keynote address by Prof. Ray Sandoval who spoke about what success looks like
  • A mock classroom experience offered by Dr. Samuel Echevarria-Cruz
  • A faculty panel discussion that shared what successful student behavior looks like in the classroom (e.g. time management, study skills), challenges that students may run into while completing their courses, and why students should develop a relationship with their faculty
  • A tour of Highland Campus led by the Recruitment Office

Faculty and Family Connections was sponsored by the Teaching and Learning Excellence Division’s (TLED) Office of Faculty Development and Evaluation as part of the College’s Belonging and Connection Theory of Change initiative.

“By involving and welcoming families into the academic journey, a student’s family capital is recognized and valued, enhancing their own sense of belonging and purpose,” says Dr. Theresa Glenn, dean of Faculty Development and Evaluation.
