With local shelters at capacity, Austin Community College District (ACC) is asking for support from the ACC community to foster the spring 2024 pets over spring break. The animals are cared for during the semester by students in the Veterinary Technology program.

Every semester, the department works with local animal shelters to acquire dogs and cats for students to care for as they learn and work hands-on. All the animals are vaccinated, microchipped, and have received medical care such as heartworm prevention and flea medication. All dogs have undergone leash training and socialization.

Spring break fosters would be sent with food and all necessary supplies for the week (toy, blanket, leash, gentle leader, food bowl, litter, etc). No formal training is required, but experience owning/caring for animals would be preferred. The pets would stay with their foster parents for 10 days, and return to campus after break. If interested in adoption, all fosters will be given the opportunity to do so at the end of the semester.

The deadline to apply to foster is Monday, March 4. For more information and to view the application, click here.
