Early voting for the March 2024 primary elections starts soon! Austin Community College District (ACC) is committed to providing access to nonpartisan information about voter registration and voting procedures.
The college encourages students, faculty, and staff to make their mark, and cast a ballot.
Early voting runs from Tuesday, February 20, through Friday, March 1. While there are no early voting sites located on ACC campuses, many are close by. You can find an interactive map of polling locations on the ACC Votes web page.
Three campuses — Round Rock, Elgin, and Hays — will have polling on site for Election Day, Tuesday, March 5.
The ACC Service area is large — spanning multiple counties that all have different ballots, polling locations, hours/dates for Early Voting. Visit the ACC Votes web page to find all the resources and information employees and students need to make your plan to vote.
Why are the primaries important?
2024 is a presidential election year. Additionally, many other important federal, state, and local level races are on the ballot, including U.S. Senator, all 38 U.S. Representatives, 15 State Senators, all 150 State Representatives, Railroad Commissioner, 7 State Board of Education members, 3 members of the Texas Supreme Court, and much more.
The candidate who wins the majority, or more than half, of votes in their race will face candidates from other parties in the November 2024 general election. If no candidate gets a majority of votes in their race, the top two vote-getters will head to a May 28 primary runoff election.
During the 2022 primaries, only 17.7% of the 17.2 million people registered to vote in Texas made it to the polls. That means that less than 1 in 5 registered voters participated in these important elections to choose nominees for the Democratic and Republican parties.
With more than 4,000 employees and 30,000 students, the ACC community has the potential to make a huge difference in the election.
