ACC’s Embedded Services’ Tutoring Program has been awarded an internationally recognized certification by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).

The Level 1 International TUTOR Training Program Certification (ITTPC) designation the college received signals that the program meets a set of rigorous standards for tutor selection, training, direct service, and evaluation as an integral part of the overall program.

Additionally, the certification:

  • Provides recognition and positive reinforcement for tutors’ successful work,
  • Sets professional standards of skill and training for tutors, and
  • Augments program credibility for administrators and institutions.

ACC’s team of Tutoring Specialists and Online Embedded Tutors is led by Dr. DeEadra Albert-Green, director of Online Learning Support and Embedded Services. The certification project was led by Seth McLagan, Online Learning Lab tutoring specialist.

About Embedded Tutoring at ACC

ACC’s Embedded Learning Support Services (ELSS) aims to create a supportive, seamless environment for students to understand new or challenging material through innovative learning and study strategies.

ELSS directly integrates ACC Embedded Tutors into select courses to provide knowledge and skills for that specific content area. Embedded Tutors work closely with the instructor for the course duration to help students understand course concepts and enhance student engagement.

ACC Associate Professor of Composition & Literary Studies Sarah Stayton shares her experience with Embedded Tutors below:

“Having an Embedded Tutor in my class has allowed for a more seamless learning environment for my students. Because Embedded Tutors have access to Blackboard, they can access my OER textbook and lectures and have more intimate knowledge of my course and how its content is being taught. This is exciting for instructors who use various mediums, like videos and podcasts, and other multimedia platforms to help students grasp certain concepts. With access to the same material as my students, my Embedded Tutor can better assist with their learning.

“As instructors, we all have those times when we wish we could clone ourselves to have more time to get things done and meet with students. Having an Embedded Tutor is like having an extension of myself that can help students when they need extra help with a challenging topic. Having an Embedded tutor has made a big difference and has really helped the success of my students.”
