Two Austin Community College District (ACC) students were recognized in the 2020-2021 International Student Literary and Art awards hosted by the League for Innovation in the Community College.

ACC student Cole Doss won first place in the Fictional Short Story category of the 2020-2021 Student Literary Awards. Doss was selected to represent the college after winning first place in the 2021 ACC League For Innovation competition for his short story, “A Million Blessings.” 

ACC student Brent Gillentine won the Juror’s Choice Award in the League’s 2020-2021 Student Art Awards. Gillentine was selected to represent the college with his porcelain art piece, “Alone,” after winning first place in the Ceramics category of the 2021 ACC Student Art Exhibition. Gillentine also was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Austin Art League for this work.

Forty-seven students from 15 board colleges participated in the literary competition hosted by Sinclair Community College, and 74 students from 15 board colleges participated in the art competition hosted by Kirkwood Community College.

Each student who competed at the international level will receive a certificate of merit. Winners also receive prizes according to their placement and will be included in a Winners Anthology currently being produced that will be mailed to League Board presidents/chancellors this fall.
