Ever open an email or text and click a link you knew you shouldn’t? It happens. Learn how to spot those suspicious emails and what steps to take before you get scammed during a special cybersecurity fireside chat.
Austin Community College District’s (ACC) InfoSec Department hosts Click, Apply, Regret: A Scam Survival Story to share real-world tips so you can spot red flags and protect yourself (and others) online.
Date: Monday, October 13
Time: 12–1 p.m.
Location: ACC Highland Campus, Building 2000 (Room 2.1410, Floor 1).
The program features:
- Lisa Plaggemier, Executive Director of the National Cybersecurity Alliance, sharing expert strategies to stay safe online.
- Amisha Datta, a recent college graduate and scam survivor, tells her powerful story of being targeted while job hunting. She’ll walk attendees through the scam from first contact to recovery — highlighting red flags and common tactics that anyone could encounter.
“This is a unique opportunity to connect directly with an expert and gain valuable, practical insights to help us all navigate the complexities of our digital lives,” said Emilie Kunze, ACC Interim Chief Information Security Officer. “We’re excited to welcome Lisa and Amisha to campus for this timely conversation.”
The event is free and open to all ACC students, faculty, and staff. Employees should register early to secure a seat. Space is limited.
