Austin Community College District (ACC) faculty and staff can help spread the College’s values of Joy and Compassion through a new effort that launched this spring. The Good News Report was started for employees by an employee to share and spotlight moments of compassion, gratitude, and celebration.

“In these stressful times, let’s uplift joy intentionally,” says Maze, Student Experience & Outcomes Administrative Assistant III. They created the Good News Report in honor of QueenSamantha Ackers, ACC’s ambassador of joy who passed away in March, and were inspired by the “Joy Wall” at the Student Affairs Culture Reboot training.

“As QueenSamantha said, happiness is a choice. We all need a little more good news—and this is our way of spreading it and reminding each other to look for the good and choose happiness,” says Maze.

Maze has been sharing the Good News Report with the Chancellor and the Board of Trustees since it was started in April, and will continue to do so at each board meeting as they are able.

From everyday kindness and things that made us smile to gratitude for leadership and wins big and small, Maze would like employees to share it all.
