ACC announces a new global Open Educational Resources (OER) recognition. ACC Highland Campus Head Librarian, Carrie Gits, in partnership with the Digital Higher Education Consortium of Texas (DigiTex), was awarded an international 2021 OE Global Open Education Award for Excellence for her work to develop a statewide OER training program.

Gits developed Texas Learn OER in collaboration with DigiTex, which is based at ACC. It was adapted for DigiTex from Gits’ ACC Learn OER program.

Since its launch in August 2020, 134 people across 11 states and two countries have earned certificates of completion from the Texas Learn OER training.

“It’s an honor to receive this award with DigiTex. There’s so much incredible work happening in our state to build and enhance OER,” says Gits. “To see this program’s usefulness and adaptability reach beyond our state, across the nation, and into other countries is encouraging. Together, we’re helping more people understand OER and open licensing and ultimately make education more accessible than ever.”

The award, distributed by Open Education Global (OE Global), is an annual recognition of outstanding contributions in the Open Education community.

“This year we celebrate ten Open Assets Award Winners,” said OE Global. “Open assets are produced, curated, and distributed in ways that make them freely accessible, usable, and improvable by others. The nominations received were outstanding. (It’s a) testament of the significant growth in the Open Education movement around the world. Together we stand for a world of openness where knowledge is openly and freely accessible.”
