Spring is the perfect time for a fresh start and maybe a new furry friend. The cats and dogs cared for by students in the Austin Community College District (ACC) Veterinary Technology Program are ready to meet their forever families.

Each adoptable pet receives medical care while in ACC’s program. Animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and placed on flea and heartworm prevention. They also receive basic training and daily care from Vet Tech students, who gain valuable hands-on clinical experience as part of their coursework.

How to Adopt

  1. Visit ACC Elgin Campus: Schedule a meet-and-greet by emailing [email protected].
  2. Meet & Match: Spend time getting to know the animals and find the one that fits your lifestyle.
  3. Apply: Submit an adoption application and pay a small fee to help cover care costs.
  4. Take-home: Pick up your new friend at the end of the academic semester. This gives the Vet Tech students enough time to finish all treatments before your pet goes home.

The pets come from local and rural shelters across Central Texas. By adopting through the program, community members not only give an animal a second chance at a loving home, but they also help shelters create space to rescue and care for more animals.
