Happy New Year and welcome back to the ACC Data Debrief video series.
College affordability has emerged as a top priority of our new Chancellor. Affordability concerns both our students’ basic needs — such as food, housing, transportation, and child care — and as other educational costs — tuition, fees, and textbooks.
One way ACC helps improve the affordability of textbooks is through the use of Open Educational Resources (OER) and Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) materials.
In fall 2023, 44% of all credit students took at least one ZTC/OER class. The Office of Institutional Research and Analytics (OIRA) conducted a survey of ACC students who were enrolled in a credit ZTC or OER class to learn more about their experiences with these instructional materials.
The survey included questions on how students pay for college, how costs of course materials influence their ability to enroll, the financial impacts of ZTC/OER options, awareness of ZTC/OER, experiences in ZTC/OER, and access to technology off campus.
In the January 2024 Data Debrief video below, OIRA Vice Chancellor Dr. Jenna Cullinane Hege highlights exciting insights that were discovered in this survey.
