Austin Community College District (ACC) announces Dr. Elizabeth A. Mosser Knight (she/her) as the new Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Programs. She started her tenure with the college in November 2023.

In this role, Dr. Mosser Knight provides student-focused and inclusivity-minded leadership and oversight of college credit academic transfer as well as adult education courses and programs. She provides leadership for collegewide initiatives and priorities in support of the college’s strategic plan and academic master plan. 

Additionally, she provides leadership in improving student persistence, retention, and successful completion of college access courses and programs; transitioning of students into college credit courses and programs; and increasing equity of student success in all college-level courses and programs.

“When this position opened up, it was a perfect culmination of the experiences to this point in my higher education career, my passion for supporting a sense of belonging and transformative academic experiences for students, and the potential of working among such dedicated and skilled colleagues,” says Dr. Mosser Knight. ”Being in a dynamic city and working for such an innovative and inclusive college was an opportunity I just couldn’t pass up, and am so thankful to now be part of the ACC community.”

Dr. Mosser Knight was previously the Associate Dean of Academic Operations at Harford Community College in Bel Air, Maryland, where she co-led the Achieving the Dream movement and strategic planning development, oversight, and assessment. In her daily role, her portfolio included curriculum and program development, eLearning, articulation and transfer agreements, academic assessment and program review, academic scheduling, data analysis and budgeting, special initiatives such as CTE completion, and supporting faculty development. She also provided leadership for dual enrollment and student support/policy administration (via Title IX, etc.) and is a proud proponent of positive and collaborative shared governance.

During her time as a faculty member, Dr. Mosser Knight taught a variety of psychology and educational philosophy courses across modalities and continues to be an active proponent of the Universal Design for Learning approach to curriculum development and facilitated many UDL-related workshops, conference presentations, and keynote addresses on the subject. 

Dr. Mosser Knight completed her initial graduate work in educational psychology at The Ohio State University, where her research focused on student self-regulation and the assessment/reflection cycle. Her doctoral work at Notre Dame of Maryland University focused on faculty development and organizational growth with specific emphasis on the tenets and structures that best support faculty in deepening their teaching skills.  

In addition to a firm commitment to the mission of community colleges and student success, Dr. Mosser Knight holds a professional goal of positively contributing to an inclusive student experience. 

Dr. Mosser Knight replaces Dr. Gaye Lynn Scott, who assumed the role of ACC’s vice chancellor of instruction in January 2023.
