Austin Community College District joined the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C., on their annual Federal Advocacy trip. The college joined more than 60 leaders to advocate for issues impacting Central Texas, like workforce performance, job growth, and innovation. ACC’s Make It Center was the topic of a Learning Abstract article published by the League for Innovation in the Community College. “The Make It Center: Career Exploration Today for Tomorrow” was written by ACC Make It Center Director Dr. Janelle Green, ACCelerators & Strategic Initiatives Executive Dean Curtiss Stevens, and Student Engagement & Academic Success Associate Vice Chancellor Guillermo “Willie” Martinez. ACC’s Great Questions Seminar was mentioned in the Wall Street Journal in a June 9, 2023, Op Ed titled “Great Books Can Heal Our Divided Campuses” by Andrew Delbanco, Alexander Hamilton Professor of American Studies at Columbia University and president of the Teagle Foundation. Austin Community College is featured alongside other institutions such as Purdue University, Vanderbilt University, and Stanford University as an example of leadership and innovation in general education. ACC Biotechnology Department Chair Linnea Fletcher was a featured guest on the Grow Everything podcast. She discusses the importance of education and its intersection with biotechnology, emphasizing the need for more individuals to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to support or create companies in this field. Two ACC students placed in the 2022-2023 International Student Literary and Art competition sponsored by the League for Innovation in the Community College. Bailey Forman won third place in the International Student Art Awards for “Were You Listening?” and Shannon Williams won third place in the International Student Literary Awards – Poetry division for “The Next Morning in Fruita.”
