ACC takes proactive measures to support Central Texans after the recent ice storm left hundreds of thousands in the dark. College administration announced it will now offer a 50% discount on its Lineworker Program during the board meeting Monday, February 13.

ACC’s Lineworker Certificate Program provides hands-on experience and training for a solid foundation for a career in the utility industry. The program can be completed in just six weeks.

“One of the things that a line worker wants to do is to restore the power back to the customer — that’s it. And they want to do it as safely and as efficiently as they possibly can,” says Ray Cook, ACC Lineworker Program instructor. “Coming to ACC and going through this program will get your foot in the door, versus someone who basically put their application directly to the utility. That’s what the utilities are looking for — people who have that basic information, that basic knowledge.”

As the workforce ages and Central Texas continues to experience face-paced growth, the lineworker shortage continues to grow. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says demand for lineworkers will grow more than 8% over the next four years.

ACC remains committed to being flexible to meet the demands of the region. Registration is now open for the next cohort that begins in April. The college will expand and add additional offerings as needed.

ACC began offering a 50% discount on select high-demand Fast Track programs in December 2020 to upskill and reskill the Texas workforce in high-demand careers.
