Austin Community College (ACC) invites faculty, students, staff, and friends of the College to the first Community Conversation in the new Character Education Initiative, an evening of food, dialogue, and shared reflection. This gathering is designed to create space for meaningful conversation about the qualities that help us navigate complexity and contribute thoughtfully to our communities.

Our Guest

The evening will be guided by Dr. Elizabeth Whiting from Wake Forest University, who will lead participants in exploring freedom, virtue, and community through a discussion of a short excerpt from Frederick Douglass’ autobiography. The reading and discussion questions are shared during registration to prepare for the evening of conversation.

What to Expect

Participants will share a meal together, learn more about ACC’s Character Education Initiative, discuss a short excerpt from Frederick Douglass’ autobiography, and break into small groups for dialogue, then reconvene to share insights.

The initiative is supported by Wake Forest University’s Educating Character Initiative and reflects ACC’s commitment to fostering thoughtful engagement, civic responsibility, and meaningful connection across our community.
