I would like to express gratitude for the support that has been given to the program to achieve this plateau. This level of accreditation opens a lot of doors for our students<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d says <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kerry Coombs, Veterinary Technology program chair<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cAttending an AVMA fully-accredited veterinary technology program helps students know that they are enrolling in a quality program that will help them be successful in a career as a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Graduating from an accredited program makes them eligible to take the VTNE national board exam to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The program received initial accreditation in April 2016 from the AVMA Committee <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities. The committee <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">conducted another virtual site visit in February 2021 and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">elevated ACC\u2019s Vet Tech program at its April meeting. Full accreditation is effective February 11, 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Full AVMA accreditation means that ACC&#8217;s Veterinary Tech program meets or exceeds the standards of accreditation. The standards involve:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Having institutional accreditation, financial support for the program, organization, and communication between the institution and program staff and students, and be conducted with integrity.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The physical facilities need to emulate contemporary veterinary facilities and be in compliance with federal and state regulations and have adequate resources for clinical instruction.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Library and information resources need to be of high quality and admissions policies well defined.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students need to be of appropriate number for the mission of the program and exposed to veterinary team concepts.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Faculty and staff properly qualified to instruct in a veterinary technology program and proper ratio of students to instructors.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The curriculum must prepare graduates to be successful on the national board exam and be responsive to the changing needs of the veterinary medical profession.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ACC\u2019s Vet Tech progra<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">m is a special admissions program with limited availability.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The program is housed at ACC Elgin Campus which underwent an extensive expansion from 2015 to 2018.
