{"id":3554,"date":"2023-06-01T10:47:04","date_gmt":"2023-06-01T16:47:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infohub.austincc.edu\/shared-governance\/?p=3554"},"modified":"2023-06-08T10:45:34","modified_gmt":"2023-06-08T16:45:34","slug":"donation-benefits-students-with-disabilities-in-acc-steps-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/infohub.austincc.edu\/shared-governance\/blog\/2023\/06\/01\/donation-benefits-students-with-disabilities-in-acc-steps-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Donation benefits students with disabilities in ACC STEPS Program\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Austin Community College District (ACC) celebrated the accomplishments of 24 students who graduated from ACC\u2019s Skills, Training, and Education for Personal Success (STEPS) program this spring.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/infohub.austincc.edu\/shared-governance\/blog\/2023\/05\/18\/accgrads-spring-celebrations-honoring-acc-grads-across-the-district-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">The reception<\/a><\/strong> took place Thursday, May 11, at ACC Northridge Campus and was funded in part thanks to a $7,500 donation from the <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/matthew58.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Matthew 5:8 Foundation<\/a><\/strong>. The Foundation was founded by former Texas Representative Larry Gonzales and his wife Marie. Their son has taken more than 40 hours in ACC credit classes and was one of the graduates honored in the ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their donation also will fund a dozen $500 scholarships \u2014 earmarked for the STEPS program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ACC\u2019s STEPS program offers vocational training and educational options for adults with mild to moderate intellectual and developmental disabilities\u200b. Graduates who complete STEPS are eligible to take a certification course in their area of interest.
