Today is the one-year anniversary of the tragic violence that took place at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In honor of the anniversary, the governor issued an order to lower flags to half-staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The college also will host opportunities for employees and students to come together in conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe remain deeply saddened by the events of that day. Our hearts are with the survivors,\u201d says Dr. Richard Rhodes, ACC Chancellor. \u201cAs a place of learning, it is up to us to provide space for conversation, where we can come together to remember, honor, and heal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ACC\u2019s<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.austincc.edu\/business-community\/truth-racial-healing-and-transformation\"><strong>Truth, Racial Healing &amp; Transformation Center at Highland Campus<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/students.austincc.edu\/latin-american-cultural-center\/\"><strong>Latin American Cultural Center at Riverside Campus<\/strong><\/a> host a special remembrance hour starting at <strong>11 a.m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The events will include a moment of silence, and counselors will be onsite for those who may want additional support.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As always, students may visit with a counselor in person on any ACC campus or virtually, and employees may use the college\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.austincc.edu\/offices\/benefits\/employee-support-programs\/employee-assistance-program\"><strong>employee assistance programs for ongoing counseling support<\/strong><\/a><strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/infohub.austincc.edu\/shared-governance\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2023\/05\/Remembrance-Hour-FB-Landscape.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3535\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Flags are at half-staff at all campuses across ACC District today, Wednesday, May 24, 2023, in honor of the victims, survivors, families, loved ones, and the entire Uvalde community.
