{"id":2831,"date":"2022-12-14T13:49:18","date_gmt":"2022-12-14T19:49:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infohub.austincc.edu\/shared-governance\/?p=2831"},"modified":"2022-12-14T13:49:20","modified_gmt":"2022-12-14T19:49:20","slug":"acc-board-of-trustees-swear-in-new-reelected-trustees-elect-officers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/infohub.austincc.edu\/shared-governance\/blog\/2022\/12\/14\/acc-board-of-trustees-swear-in-new-reelected-trustees-elect-officers\/","title":{"rendered":"ACC Board of Trustees swear-in new &#038; reelected trustees, elect officers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Austin Community College District (ACC) swore in one newly elected and two returning trustees while also recognizing the public service of an outgoing board member during the board\u2019s general meeting Monday, December 12, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Honorable District 49 State Representative Gina Hinojosa swore in new Trustee Steve Jackobs in a ceremony at the ACC Highland Business Center. Jackobs replaced ACC&#8217;s outgoing Trustee, Dr. Nora de Hoyos Comstock, and will represent Place 6 on the Board.\u00a0Dr. Comstock served on the Board from 2016 to 2022 and did not seek reelection. Jackobs previously served as Executive Director of Capital IDEA from its founding in 1998 until his retirement in 2022. Under Jackobs\u2019 leadership, Capital IDEA has become one of ACC\u2019s most valuable partners, helping more than 2,000 students graduate in nursing, technology, and skilled trades programs during his time at the organization. Jackobs has a bachelor\u2019s degree from Harvard University and a master\u2019s degree from the University of Sussex.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/infohub.austincc.edu\/shared-governance\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2022\/12\/Board-of-Trustees-Meeting-scr-13.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2833\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Steve Jackobs being sworn in by the Honorable District 49 State Representative Gina Hinojosa<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat we&#8217;re doing is helping people cross a boundary into a new set of responsibilities in participation in the society at large,\u201d says Jackobs. \u201cI know many people here in the college and I know in your hearts, every one of you, you&#8217;re here to make a difference for the students. So I thank you. I thank the faculty. I thank the administration, and I thank the other trustees.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trustees Sean Hassan and Dr. Manuel (Manny) Gonzalez were both reelected to Places 4 and 5, respectively. Hassan was sworn in by Honorable Travis County Judge Andy Brown while Dr. Gonzalez was sworn in by Honorable District 136 State Representative John Bucy III.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur families are what make all of this possible,\u201d says Hassan. \u201cMy wife supports the work I do here at ACC. It is because of extended family support we are able to do what we do. Thank you all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/infohub.austincc.edu\/shared-governance\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2022\/12\/Board-of-Trustees-Meeting-scr-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2835\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Trustee Sean Hassan was sworn in by the Honorable Travis County Judge Andy Brown<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI do not take this oath lightly. It&#8217;s something that I&#8217;m very proud of (and) something I get excited about,\u201d says Dr. Gonzalez. \u201cI grew up on a community college campus. I&#8217;m thankful to be part of the community. As a Trustee, I have an opportunity to work closely in an institution that tries to foster social and economic mobility for those seeking to advance into higher education. This is a dream come true.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/infohub.austincc.edu\/shared-governance\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2022\/12\/Board-of-Trustees-Meeting-scr-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2836\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Trustee Dr. Manuel (Manny) Gonzalez was sworn in by Honorable District 136 State Representative John Bucy III<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The board also elected its new officers for 2023.
