Dr. Sykes will share her knowledge and experience of how inclusive language and classroom practices impact belonging and success.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Inclusive Language and Classroom Practices Faculty Interest Group Keynote: Dr. Alain Sykes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Date:<\/strong> Friday, December 9<br><strong>Time:<\/strong> 10 a.m.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br><strong>Location:<\/strong> ACC Highland Campus, Building 2000, Room 1550<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event also will be livestreamed <a href=\"https:\/\/livestream.com\/acc\/facdev\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>HERE<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About the Keynote Speaker<\/strong><br>Dr. Sykes became interested in social justice through the encouragement and modeling of her parents and teachers. She taught social science and literature for over 15 years at schools in the United States and abroad. Dr. Sykes\u2019 formal leadership roles have included department chair at the American Overseas School of Rome and the International School of Amsterdam, director of multiculturalism and inclusion at Chadwick School in Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif., and assistant head of school for academics at Hawai\u02bbi Preparatory Academy in Kamuela, Hawai\u02bbi.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She has been published on the topics of multiracial identity, philosophy for children programs, and Muslim minority schools in Greece.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Inclusive Language &amp; Practices &amp; Faculty Interest Groups<\/strong><br>Inclusive language and practices in the classroom promote belonging, community building, inclusion, equity, diversity, justice, and the mission of ACC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A FIG is a group of faculty within or across disciplines with a mutual interest in a subject applicable to teaching.
