{"id":2738,"date":"2022-11-21T08:40:00","date_gmt":"2022-11-21T14:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infohub.austincc.edu\/shared-governance\/?p=2738"},"modified":"2022-11-22T12:55:29","modified_gmt":"2022-11-22T18:55:29","slug":"acc-board-meeting-november-17-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/infohub.austincc.edu\/shared-governance\/blog\/2022\/11\/21\/acc-board-meeting-november-17-recap\/","title":{"rendered":"ACC Board Meeting November 17 Recap"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Austin Community College District (ACC) Board of Trustees held its November regular meeting on Tuesday, November 17, 2022.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trustees learned about a new donation from NXP, heard a presentation on Texas Commission on Community College Finance recommendations, and approved the college\u2019s fourth bachelor\u2019s degree program. Below are highlights from the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Bachelor of Applied Science in Cybersecurity Degree&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trustees unanimously approved the college\u2019s fourth bachelor\u2019s degree program \u2014 a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Cybersecurity. Cybersecurity remains one of the most in-demand careers, with 44 percent growth forecast over the next 10 years. The Austin metro area is the ninth biggest metropolitan in the country for cybersecurity careers, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The BAS in Cybersecurity is designed for professionals who already have a related associate degree, including those who transition directly to a four-year degree or those in the workforce. Flexibility remains the college\u2019s top priority, providing online, in-person, and hybrid course options. Learn more <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/infohub.austincc.edu\/shared-governance\/chancellors-priorities\/acc-trustees-approve-new-bachelors-degree-in-cybersecurity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HERE<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Chancellor\u2019s Report<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ACC Chancellor Dr. Richard Rhodes started his remarks by thanking trustees for going out in the community and sharing information about the college\u2019s $770 million general obligation bond. Now that the bond has received voter approval, the college will get started immediately on these projects. Learn more <a href=\"https:\/\/infohub.austincc.edu\/shared-governance\/happening-now\/voters-overwhelmingly-approve-accs-770-million-bond-elect-3-trustees\/\"><strong>HERE<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Rhodes congratulated ACC\u2019s accreditation team under the leadership of Dr. Mary Harris and support of Misty Rasmussen, Dr. Ron Johns, Dr. Missi Patterson, and Dr. Linda Smarzik&nbsp;for a successful Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) On-Site Reaffirmation visit. It was the third visit from SACSCOC with no recommendations. Construction on the center, located in ACC Highland Campus, is nearly wrapped and the team is getting ready to start moving in furniture and equipment. The college now offers four direct paths to key bachelor\u2019s degree programs at Southern New Hampshire University, and as part of this new partnership, our students, employees, and employees\u2019 immediate families are eligible for a 10 percent discount on SNHU\u2019s tuition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Rhodes also informed Trustees of a new college tradition at ACC. The college will now LIGHT UP PURPLE in recognition of major college achievements, awards, and academic excellence. In honor of the largest donation to scholarships in ACC history \u2014 $5 million from University Federal Credit Union \u2014 the lights at ACC Highland went purple on Wednesday, November 16.
