{"id":2614,"date":"2022-11-03T10:53:54","date_gmt":"2022-11-03T16:53:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infohub.austincc.edu\/shared-governance\/?p=2614"},"modified":"2022-11-03T12:58:36","modified_gmt":"2022-11-03T18:58:36","slug":"job-fair-connects-ae-cad-gis-ge-students-to-employers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/infohub.austincc.edu\/shared-governance\/blog\/2022\/11\/03\/job-fair-connects-ae-cad-gis-ge-students-to-employers\/","title":{"rendered":"Job fair connects A&#038;E CAD\/GIS\/GE students to employers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Contributed by Ashleigh Congdon-Fuller, A&amp;E CAD Program Coordinator\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ACC\u2019s Architectural &amp; Engineering CAD (A&amp;E CAD), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Geospatial Engineering (GE) programs hosted their first big joint job fair at ACC Highland Campus on Friday, October 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than 120 attended the event and were able to connect with 60 local employers who are actively hiring for CAD, GIS, and GE positions, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Austin Water<\/li><li>City of Austin<\/li><li>City of Round Rock<\/li><li>Civilitude<\/li><li>Department of State Health Services GIS Team<\/li><li>GarzaEMC<\/li><li>HDR Engineering<\/li><li>Kimley-Horn<\/li><li>Page Architecture<\/li><li>Pape-Dawson Engineers, Inc.<\/li><li>Samsung<\/li><li>Southwest Engineers, Inc.<\/li><li>Texas Natural Resources Information System<\/li><li>Travis Central Appraisal District<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The job fair featured a welcome session for students and employers, a spring 2023 advising session for current students, an alumni Q&amp;A symposium, a portfolio presentation, and an industry Q&amp;A panel.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/infohub.austincc.edu\/shared-governance\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2022\/11\/AE-CAD-GIS-GE-Career-Fair-scr.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2616\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seventeen employers participated in break-out sessions that allowed them each to make a presentation directly to students to promote their company and the positions they\u2019re hiring for. Throughout the event, employers had the opportunity to reserve a classroom to interview students on the spot.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Attendees received a &#8220;Career Passport.&#8221; Those who received 10 signatures from employers were entered for a door prize and had the opportunity to earn extra credit in each of their classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/infohub.austincc.edu\/shared-governance\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2022\/11\/AE-CAD-GIS-GE-Career-Fair-scr-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2617\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In collaboration with Career Services, ACC\u2019s A&amp;E CAD, GIS, and GE departments hosted a \u201cPrepare for the Fair\u201d event on October 7, two weeks prior to the job fair.
