Austin Community College District (ACC) was recognized today by the U.S. Department of State\u2019s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs for having produced the most Gilman recipients over the past 20 years in the Associate Institution 20-year overall Top Producer category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since 2001, 14 students from ACC received Gilman awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is an honor to be recognized as a Gilman Scholarship program top-producing institution,\u201d says William Hayden, ACC International Programs director. \u201cThis achievement encourages us to continue assisting ACC students in becoming Gilman Scholars. Our work is focused on making study abroad more accessible and inclusive for ACC students, and the Gilman Scholarship has been an important resource in that goal.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Throughout its 20-year history, the Department of State\u2019s Gilman Program has reshaped study abroad to make it more accessible and inclusive for American students by providing scholarships to outstanding U.S. undergraduate students who, due to financial constraints, might not otherwise participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a recipient of the Top Producer of Gilman Scholars, ACC is recognized for its effort to support equity, diversity, and accessibility in study abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the recent Department of State and Department of Education Joint Statement of Principles in Support of International Education noted, \u201cAll Americans need to be equipped with global and cultural competencies to navigate the ever-changing landscapes of education, international business, scientific discovery and innovation, and the global economy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
