Austin Community College District (ACC) announces the inaugural director for the Make it Center, Janelle Green. Green has more than 21 years of diverse experiences in higher education. She joins the Make It Center team after serving as an ACCelerator manager for three years. She opened the San Gabriel Campus ACCelerator and established the operational procedures, developed campuswide collaborations, managed scheduling for classes and events, and oversaw staffing. During her time at SGC, the ACCelerator experienced increases and growth in student participation every year. Before the ACCelerator, she was a supervisor in Student Life, where she oversaw staff, operations, and districtwide programming efforts that supported the retention and persistence of students. Green is also adjunct faculty at ACC and has been teaching for four years in the General Studies and Student Development department.
Prior to joining ACC, Green spent two and a half years as an entrepreneur starting up and growing Front Door Fitness LLC, a company that provides customized fitness training and nutrition coaching services and is in its eighth year of operation. She started this business while serving as an assistant director at the University of Texas (UT) at Austin in the Office of the Dean of Students with the Leadership and Ethics Institute (LEI). While at UT, she assisted in creating the organizational structure of LEI, which entailed realigning pre-existing programs and services; developing and implementing new programs and initiatives; and recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, developing, and supervising a staff inclusive of full-time professionals, graduate assistants, and student leaders. Janelle also taught at UT Austin in the department of Educational Psychology on topics related to leadership and ethics, social justice, power and privilege, and intersecting identities. Prior to becoming a Longhorn at UT Austin, Janelle spent six years working in student affairs within the area of Residence and Student Life.
She has been the recipient of the Austin Community College Riverbat Bravo Excellence Award; Residence Hall Director of the Year award and multiple Community of Excellence awards at Central Michigan University, and was recognized as Graduate Resident Coordinator of the year at Loyola University Maryland.
Janelle has a Bachelor of Science from Central Michigan University and a Master of Business Administration from Loyola University Maryland. This fall, she will complete her Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership and Higher Education at Abilene Christian University.
